Personal

Design premise
The project stems from a personal desire to tell a story connected to one’s hometown, taking as a reference the battola ritual, a traditional instrument used during the Easter procession.
Beyond its religious meaning, the battola represented a moment of sharing and fun for children, where they could express themselves freely. The design challenge is therefore to reinterpret this social value in a contemporary product, preserving its characteristic elements and recreating the same collective spirit.

Design question
How might we reinterpret a ritual from the past, such as the battola, translating its values of sharing and fun into a contemporary product capable of recreating the same sense of freedom and collective interaction?
The solution

The product developed as a reinterpretation of the battola is a nutcracker, designed starting from its distinctive element: the dull sound similar to a hammer strike.
Composed of two symmetrical beaters, it generates this sound when cracking the nut. Designed as a convivial object, it is placed at the center of the table and used during moments of sharing, accompanying the experience with a recognizable sound.
